Khoja Ahmet Yassawi International Turkish-Kazakh University
Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University (Akhmet Yassawi University) established in 1991 on the personal initiative of the Head of State N.A. Nazarbayev and based on the Intergovernmental Agreement between Kazakhstan and Turkey to train modern highly qualified specialists from young Turkic-speaking countries, the spiritual center of the Turkic world – Turkestan and is the first university that received the status of an international institution of higher education.
During the official meeting of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and the Prime Minister of Turkey Suleyman Demirel on may 1, 1992, the University was given the status of “international University»
On October 31, 1992, the Governments of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Turkey signed the Agreement on the reorganization of the university into Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University.
In January 2012, the Head of State signed the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on the operating conditions of the Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University.
Ahmed Yasawi University is one of the leading multidisciplinary universities in Kazakhstan.
The multi-level education system of the University includes: higher basic education (bachelor’s degree), internship, master’s degree, residency and doctoral studies. Admission to the University is based on state and Turkish educational grants and on a contractual basis.

List of educational programs
In the 2020-2021 academic year, the University has 71 doctors, 252 candidates of science, and 100 PhDs. 5 % of them are foreign teachers from Turkey and other countries.
The training is conducted in Kazakh, Turkish, Russian and English.
The University has 10 faculties, graduate school of public management and Economics, vocational College, 6 research institutes, specialized dissertation Council for doctoral dissertations, the University has trained more than 10 thousand students, interns, masters, residents and doctoral students as well as students of the preparatory faculty.
Since 1992, the University has started training medical specialists in the framework of higher and postgraduate education and has an international category of universities “full university”.
Now more than 10274 students, interns, undergraduates and doctoral students and students of the preparatory faculty are studying at the University, including about 1351 thousand students (14% of the contingent) from the Turkic-speaking countries of the near and far abroad.
Over the years of its existence, the University has trained more than 76 thousand young specialists in the field of higher professional and postgraduate education, including those from near and far abroad, who are now successfully working for the benefit of their homeland.

Our university aims to educate students from Turkic-speaking States and Communities under one roof; to raise individuals who have the power of free and scientific thought, modern knowledge and skills, a sense of social responsibility, respect for human rights, tolerance, adherence to national and moral values, questioning, researching, entrepreneurial, democratic and secular state principles, and a sense of history and identity; and to contribute to science and society through research and development activities.
Admission of Students from the Turkic World
Students from Turkic Republics and Turkic and Related Communities are selected by the Rectorate. Online applications are evaluated according to the criteria determined by the commission established by the Rectorate and students are selected.
In the academic year, 250 students from Turkic Republics and Related Communities are accepted to the undergraduate programmes of our university. Among the students to be admitted, 200 students are given full scholarship (education support scholarship by the Republics of Turkey and Kazakhstan and travel fees to and from the students' countries once a year) and 50 students are given Turkey Quota. Students cover their own accommodation and personal expenses.
Students from Turkic States and Related Communities receive double scholarships from both Kazakhstan and Turkey. Dormitory is a priority for these students and transportation fee support is provided twice a year for arrival and return during their education period in an amount determined according to the countries.
Admission of students from other countries is carried out in accordance with the quotas divided according to the Turkish States and Related Communities approved at the Board of Trustees Meeting. Announcements are made in 4 languages for student admission in March. The number of applications for this year is 431.
According to the applications made, face-to-face exams are held with candidates from nearby regions. Candidates in other regions are also audited via zoom in terms of exam reliability with the online test module.

Khoja Ahmed Yasawi International Kazakh-Turkish University is located in Turkistan, Kazakhstan. On campus, there are dormitories for male and female students, each with a capacity of 650 people. The monthly fee is approximately $22 (10,000 Tenge). Dorm rooms accommodate 4-6 students. The campus also offers amenities such as reading rooms, a library, a dining hall, sports fields, a health center, and a cafeteria.
The Preparatory School is located in Kentau. There are dormitories for 300 male and female students each. Staying in the dormitories is mandatory for Preparatory School students.

Our campus features two dining halls to meet the nutritional needs of our students. The main dining hall is located near dormitories, while the second dining hall is situated on the 4th floor of the library. Both dining halls provide two meals a day, lunch and dinner, ensuring a balanced and healthy diet for our students. Additionally, each faculty has its own cafeteria, offering quick and convenient options for snacks and beverages throughout the day. Our dining halls and cafeterias are thoughtfully designed to provide a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience.
The student cafeteria can accommodate 400 people at a time. In this modern facility, students can enjoy a set menu of four dishes for approximately $1.5.

Degrees obtained from our university are legally equivalent to those from institutions in Kazakhstan and Turkiye offering education at the same level and field. Tuition is free of charge.
A mandatory preparatory year includes Kazakh and Turkish language education.
Students receive monthly scholarships: approximately $118 in Kazakh Tenge from the Republic of Kazakhstan and $50 from the Republic of Turkiye during the preparatory year and the first semester of the first year.
Annual travel costs to and from Kazakhstan are covered by the university, provided a minimum GPA of 2.33 (on a 4.0 scale) is maintained from the first semester onward.
Students repeating a class lose scholarship and travel benefits but remain exempt from tuition fees.

The campus has sports halls, a library, and student clubs. Students are encouraged to make the most of their free time through various social and productive activities. Sports and artistic events are organized to ensure active participation.
Preparatory School students benefit from these activities by building friendships with peers from different nationalities and improving their language skills through these events.
The university brings together students from diverse backgrounds, promoting cultural diversity. Events such as sports tournaments, concerts, theater performances, and Nevruz celebrations are frequently organized. Additionally, excursions to historical and sacred sites, such as the Mausoleums of Ahmed Yasawi and Arslan Baba, are offered to students.
Sports Services
In the Preparatory School building, there is a sports hall on the ground floor where students can utilize gym equipment, fitness tools, and table tennis throughout the day. Behind the dormitory building, there are open areas where students can play volleyball, basketball, and football.
To encourage students’ participation in sports, the university organizes various competitions, including football, basketball, volleyball, tug of war, running, and table tennis. Additionally, intellectual games like chess and strategic games such as “Dokuz Kumalak” in Kazakhstan and “Mangala” in Turkey are also featured in these competitions.

Our university provides a well-equipped clinic and a modern university hospital to meet the health needs of our students and staff. The clinic offers quick solutions for minor health issues, while our university hospital delivers high-quality healthcare with a wide range of specialties. Our health centers aim to support students' academic success by offering both physical and mental health services. Additionally, regular health screenings and informational events promote a healthy lifestyle.

Our university provides modern dormitories designed to offer a comfortable and secure living environment for our students. The dormitories consist of 3-story buildings with a total capacity of 650 students, with separate facilities for male and female students located across from each other. To meet the needs of our students, the dormitories are equipped with a gym, a reading room, a cafeteria, and a laundry room. Various programs are organized with students to support Turkish language learning. Theater activities are planned to contribute to language development by involving students in theater performances, as well as song, poetry, and composition competitions.
