Our History

History

The Faculty of Sports and Arts was established in 2001. Its first dean was Dr. O.K. Zharylkasyn, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor. In subsequent years, the faculty was led by Dr. B.K. Mukhamedzhanov, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor; K.D. Bayetov, Candidate of Philosophy, Professor; S.B. Beysenbayeva, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor; B.Z. Abuseitov, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor; and A.O. Rakhymzhanov, PhD, Senior Lecturer.

The faculty included 4 departments and offered 13 educational programs, training specialists in accordance with modern standards. From its early years, the faculty was distinguished by the high professional level of its teaching staff.
Among them were: People’s Artists of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Professors R.M. Seitmetov, R.T. Zhubaturova, K.K. Bekbosyn; theatre critic, Doctor of Art Studies, Professor B. Kundakbayev; Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor A.Sh. Kuzhakhmetova; Candidate of Art Studies, Associate Professor K.M. Seitmetov; Honored Sports Figure of Kazakhstan, Associate Professor A.K. Abdillaev; Honored Coach of Kazakhstan, five-time world champion A. Khalilaev, and other experienced scholars who trained many talented students.

Starting from the 2025–2026 academic year, the Faculty of Sports became an independent structural unit separated from the Faculty of Sports and Arts. This decision was made to provide more in-depth training for specialists in line with the needs and development trends of the sports industry.

Currently, the Faculty of Sports consists of 2 departments, offering 4 undergraduate and 1 master’s educational programs. The faculty successfully operates in accordance with modern academic standards, ensuring a high level of professional education.

From its establishment, the faculty has achieved remarkable success in the field of sports. Its graduates are successfully employed across Kazakhstan and abroad, achieving excellent professional results. Even during their studies, students of the faculty demonstrated outstanding performances at international competitions and Olympic Games.
For instance, Akzhurek Tangatarov, bronze medalist of the London Olympic Games in freestyle wrestling, and Esengeldi Asylzhan and Togambay Sagyndyk, winners of the 2025 World Championship, have become the pride of the faculty.

Today, the Faculty of Sports serves not only as an educational institution but also as a strong foundation for developing sports, integrating science and practice, and strengthening the athletic potential of the nation.
