History and General Information

The department was opened in 1993 as part of the Faculty of Oriental Studies under the name "Turkish Language and Literature." Since its opening, the department has been led by Metin Akar, Sh. Aktash, M. Ugurlu, H. Chebi, G. Karaagach and others. Currently, the head of the department is Kenan Semiz, a Ph.D. and senior lecturer. Over time, the department has also had renowned Turkish scholars such as Hasan Koksal, Mehmet Kiremit, Ismet Chetin, Aisha Yujel, Ahmet Odjal, Kadir Ozdamarar, Aisha Feriha Sever. The department is the main scientific and educational structural unit of the university. The scientific potential of the department is 44%. The total number of faculty professors teaching core and professional subjects of educational programs (according to employment contracts) is 30 people, including 1 doctor of science, 1 associate professor, 15 doctors of philosophy, 2 candidates of science, 7 senior teachers and 8 master’s teachers.
