History and General Information

The Department of Physics is a structural unit of our university that trains competitive, well-rounded professionals who meet the demands of the 21st century, possess highly developed creative thinking skills, have a profound knowledge of physics, are able to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice, are masters of their profession, and are highly qualified specialists. The purpose of the Department is to create conditions for students to actively acquire knowledge that meets international standards and responds to the demands of the modern labour market, as well as to organise the educational process on a productive and high-quality basis. The Department of Physics was founded on March 1, 2004. The percentage of the Department’s academic degree holders is 71%. Since 2020, PhD, Associate Professor B.Zh. Seitov has been appointed Head of the Department.

The total number of full-time positions of the teaching staff engaged in teaching the basic and professional disciplines included in the curricula of the educational programmes (having concluded employment contracts) is 24. Among them, in the fields of physics and mathematics, there are 1 professor, 7 Candidates of Sciences and associate professors, 9 PhDs, and 7 master’s degree holders. The compulsory courses of the specified educational programmes are taught by experienced and highly qualified lecturers of the Department, while the topics of the elective courses have been selected on the basis of modern knowledge, the latest achievements in physics and technology, and employers’ recommendations. For compulsory and elective disciplines, there are block assignments, credit-test questions, and examination tickets that have been discussed and approved at meetings of the Department; due attention is paid to the quality and organisation of test questions, students’ independent work and students’ independent work under the guidance of a lecturer.
