3RD INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC SYMPOSIUM HELD AT KHOJA AKHMET YASSAWI INTERNATIONAL KAZAKH-TURKISH UNIVERSITY

???? The 3rd International Scientific Symposium entitled “Islamic Scholars from Transoxiana to Anatolia: Turkistan at the Crossroads of Knowledge and Wisdom” was held at Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University. The international academic event was jointly organized by the university’s Faculty of Theology, the Faculty of Theology at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, and the Hadith History Association.

???? The symposium brought together scholars in theology, religious studies, philosophy, history, and the humanities from Kazakhstan, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, the United States, Albania, Jordan, Bulgaria, Tunisia, and Libya. Participants exchanged views on approaches to researching their shared scholarly heritage.

???? The symposium explored the legacy of scholars who contributed to the formation and development of Islamic civilization, Turkistan’s spiritual and historical significance, intellectual continuity between Transoxiana and Anatolia, and the importance of the traditions of knowledge and wisdom in the Turko-Islamic world. At the plenary session, scholarly papers were presented by Dosay Kenzhetay, Aygun Yilmaz Uzunoz, Okan Uzunoz, Hatice Toksöz, Feride Kamalova, Mehmet Sait Toprak, Armagan Atar, Mehmet Emin Özafşar, and other scholars.

???? As part of the symposium programme, six in-person and five online parallel sessions were held. The sessions addressed Khoja Akhmet Yassawi’s wisdom teachings and spiritual-philosophical legacy, hadith and Quranic exegesis traditions in Transoxiana and Turkistan, Maturidi thought, the Hanafi school of Islamic jurisprudence, Sufi literature, language, education, and ethics. By connecting historical and cultural heritage with contemporary academic research, scholars gained an opportunity to examine more deeply the spiritual and intellectual foundations of Turko-Islamic civilization.

???? Nearly 80 scholarly papers were presented during the symposium, fostering substantive international academic exchange. The presentations and discussions contributed to comprehensive research into shared civilizational heritage, new scholarly perspectives on the works of Islamic scholars, and the development of academic cooperation in this field.

???? Holding the international symposium in Turkistan helped highlight the city’s historical and spiritual significance within Turko-Islamic civilization from an academic perspective. It also underscored the importance of initiatives aimed at promoting Khoja Akhmet Yassawi’s legacy internationally, encouraging young researchers, and strengthening cooperation with foreign academic institutions.

???? For the Faculty of Theology, organizing international academic platforms of this kind is an important step towards facilitating the exchange of experience between local and international scholars, developing research partnerships, and advancing the in-depth study of the rich heritage of Turko-Islamic civilization.
