History and General Information

The Department of Theology was established as a new department within the Faculty of Theology in 2021. Currently, the department employs 17 academic staff members, including 4 professors, 2 associate professors, 5 senior lecturers holding PhD degrees, and 6 lecturers holding master's degrees.

The department holds a leading position in the country in the training of theology specialists. The department's academic staff qualification rate, based on scientific degrees, is 54%. The academic staff actively participate in international and national scientific conferences and contribute to the organization and delivery of international scientific and practical conferences.

The department has signed memoranda of cooperation with several foreign universities, including Marmara University (Istanbul), Erciyes University (Kayseri), Ondokuz Mayıs University, and other higher education institutions. These partnerships provide opportunities for international education, research activities, and academic internships.

The department offers two bachelor's degree programmes (6B02229 — Theology and 6B02266 — Islamic Studies) and one master's degree programme (7M02262 — Theology).

In the 2022–2023 academic year, the joint educational programme 6B02266 — Islamic Studies was launched, and student admissions commenced. Students enrolled in the 6B02229 — Theology programme regularly achieve prize-winning positions in national student subject Olympiads.

In August 2023, five academic staff members from the Department of Theology attended a professional development course at the Institute of Islamic Thought in Ankara, Türkiye.

During the 2026–2027 academic year, the Department of Theology employs 17 academic staff members, including 4 professors, 2 associate professors, 5 senior lecturers holding PhD degrees, and 6 lecturers holding master's degrees. The department continues to maintain its leading position in the country in the training of theology specialists.
