History and General Information

With the direct support of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, N. Nazarbayev, the university was established by the Decree “On the Establishment of Akhmet Yassawi Turkistan State University” (Almaty, June 6, 1991, No. 329).

The history of the Department of Pedagogical Sciences dates back to 1996. In that year, the Department of Social and Political Disciplines was established and headed by O. Nuskabayev, Doctor of Sociological Sciences and Professor. In the 1998 academic year, the Department of History of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology was established as a separate department and was headed by A. Abuov, Doctor of Philosophical Sciences and Professor.

In 2002, the Department of Pedagogy became an independent department and was headed by K. Ibraimzhanov, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Senior Lecturer.

In the 2003 academic year, the Faculty of Pedagogy was established as an independent faculty under the leadership of K. Ibraimzhanov. From this period onward, the department was renamed the Department of General Pedagogy and Psychology and was headed by Zh. Beisenbekov, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Senior Lecturer.

By the decision of Meeting No. 1 of the Senate of Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University dated October 28, 2004, the Department of General Pedagogy and Psychology was divided into the Department of General Psychology and the Department of General Pedagogy and Ethnopedagogy. B. Ortayev, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Associate Professor, was appointed Head of the Department of General Pedagogy and Ethnopedagogy.

From the 2006–2007 academic year until 2009, the Department of General Pedagogy and Ethnopedagogy was headed by L. K. Kerimov, a prominent scholar in the field of pedagogy, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences and Professor. From the 2009–2010 academic year, G. Kaibuldayeva, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Acting Associate Professor, was appointed Head of the Department.

In the 2011–2012 academic year, A. Rysbekova, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Acting Associate Professor, was appointed Head of the Department of General Pedagogy and Ethnopedagogy.

The department was headed by B. Kulakhmetov, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Associate Professor, in 2004–2006; B. A. Ospanova, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences and Professor, in 2006–2011; and Zh. Z. Torybayeva, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences and Professor, in the 2011–2012 academic year.

Beginning with the 2014–2015 academic year, due to structural changes at the university, the Faculty of History and Pedagogy was reorganized into the Faculty of Humanities. The Departments of General Pedagogy and Ethnopedagogy and General Psychology, which had previously been part of the Faculty of History and Pedagogy, were merged and reorganized as the Department of Pedagogical Sciences within the Faculty of Humanities.

From the 2015–2016 academic year, A. K. Rysbekova, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Acting Associate Professor, was appointed Head of the Department of Pedagogical Sciences.

In the 2021–2022 academic year, the Department of Pedagogical Sciences was reorganized as the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology. A. K. Rysbekova, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Acting Associate Professor, was appointed Head of the Department.

From September 2 of the 2024–2025 academic year, A. B. Tasova, Senior Lecturer and PhD, was appointed Head of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology.

In the 2025–2026 academic year, the total number of full-time equivalent positions of the teaching staff employed under labor contracts to teach courses within the individual discipline blocks of the curricula of the educational programs was 21.75. The teaching staff included 1 Professor, 10 Candidates of Sciences/Associate Professors, 3 PhD holders, 4 Senior Lecturers, and 2 lecturers holding Master’s degrees.

From September 1 of the 2025–2026 academic year, B. N. Auezov, Senior Lecturer and PhD, was appointed Head of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology.

In the 2026–2027 academic year, the total number of full-time equivalent positions of the teaching staff employed under labor contracts to teach courses within the individual discipline blocks of the curricula of the educational programs is 23.25. The teaching staff includes 1 Professor, 6 Candidates of Sciences/Associate Professors, 6 PhD holders, 3 Senior Lecturers, 1 lecturer holding a Master’s degree, and 2 practicing specialists involved in dual education.

The Department implements a three-cycle system of higher education. In particular, it provides Bachelor’s degree programs in 6В01121 – Psychology (IP) and 6В01101 – Pedagogy and Psychology; the Master’s degree program 7М01101 – Pedagogy and Psychology; and the doctoral program 8D01101 – Pedagogy and Psychology.
