History and general information
The Department of Computer Engineering was established in 1999 with the aim of training expert and competent engineers in the field of information technologies and computers, and Prof.Dr. E. Yesenov (Ph.D.) was appointed as being Head of the Department. Professor N.T. Rustamov, who made a great contribution to the opening of the department was appointed as the Head of the Department in the 2001-2002 Academic year. In the beginning, students of our department has received education in the fields of the following titles: "030240 - Physics and Informatics", "370440 - Software and Information Support of Computer Hardware and Networks", "360140 - Automation and Informatics of Management Systems", "370140 - Computer Management and Information Processing Systems" and "541530 - Information in Economics". Currently, the Department of Computer Engineering offers undergraduate degrees in 3 different programs: "6B06151 - Information Systems", "6В06181 - Information Processing and Data Visualization", "6B06182 - Computer Engineering", in two different master programs: "7М06115 - Information Systems", "7M06146 - Computer Engineering" (in partnership with the Gazi University (Turkey, 2023) and a doctoral program, "8D06115 - Information Systems".
Currently, students from 10 different nationalities, including Turkey and 9 Turkish-speaking countries, are studying in our department. Associate Professor G.N. Kazbekova has been serving as the Head of the Department since the Spring semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. Our department is among the top 50% of Computer Engineering Departments in Kazakhstan.
İlyas Kozhabaev "Smart Sensor Systems Laboratory" was established in 2019. In 2021, within the scope of cooperation with Huawei, the "HUAWEI ICT Academy" laboratory was established and started to provide training. In addition, the Digital Technology Laboratory was established, and courses began to be organized and certificates were given through these laboratories. Within the framework of the cooperation agreement signed with "Kentav Transformer Factory - JSC", students of our department were provided with practical training with the dual system.
Thanks to exchange programs and bilateral agreements, many of our undergraduate and graduate students have benefited from the opportunity to study and do internships in various countries of Europe and Asia, especially Turkey.
