The department was founded on September 1, 2003 under the name of the Department of Kazakh, Russian and English Languages. Since September 2006, the department has been renamed the Department of the Kazakh language.
Over the years, the department was headed by: in 2003-2005 – B. Ashykbayeva, in the 2005-2006 academic year – Candidate of Philological Sciences Sh. Karsybekova, in 2006-2010 academic years – senior lecturer Z. Apsemet.
Since September 2009, due to the reduction of the English Language discipline at the Preparatory Faculty, the department has been renamed the Department of Kazakh and Russian Languages.
In the 2010-2011 academic year, Candidate of Philological Sciences E. Adilbekova was appointed head of the Department of Kazakh and Russian Languages.
In the 2013-2014 academic year, the department was again named the Department of Kazakh, Russian and English Languages.
Ilyas Ordueri was appointed head of the department.
Since the 2014-2015 academic year, the department has been headed by Candidate of Philological Sciences Zh. Suyinzhanova.
Russian Russian and English Languages Department was transformed into the Preparatory Faculty of the Preparatory and Language Training Center in the 2015-2016 academic year, and the Department of Kazakh, Russian and English Languages into the Department of Kazakh and Russian Languages.
Since the 2018-2019 academic year, the department has been headed by Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences A. Myrzakhanova.
Since 2019, the department has been transformed into the Department of Kazakh and Russian Languages.
The preparatory faculty teaches students of the Kazakh and Russian Languages Department who come from Turkic-speaking countries and related communities the Kazakh language. Kazakh language teaching is conducted according to a continuous educational model based on the methodology of "Teaching Kazakh as a related language" at three levels (A1, A2, B1).
Russian Russian (A1) and Kazakh Language (A1) classes are held in the first trimester, Kazakh Language (A2) and Russian Language (A2) in the second trimester, and Kazakh Language (B1) and Russian in the third trimester.B1)". The department does not train specialists.
From the 2021-2022 academic year, students of the Preparatory Center study the discipline "Kazakh language" (A1, A2, B1) according to the educational and methodological complex "Kazakh language" (A1, A2, B1).
