GreenCA Project: New Educational Modules for Sustainable Water Management Discussed at Scientific Seminar in Oslo

In August, a scientific seminar was held at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in Oslo, Norway, within the framework of the international Erasmus+ CBHE project GreenCA — "Greening Water Education for Sustainable Development in Central Asia" (GreenCA).

International experts, educators, and representatives from partner universities gathered to develop new educational modules, outline key course topics, define expected learning outcomes, and establish assessment criteria. Participants also explored Norway's experience in applying eco-friendly and resource-saving solutions in water resource management.

The GreenCA project aims to modernize higher education curricula across Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan by embedding principles of the green and circular economy. Its urgency stems from growing pressures on water resources in Central Asia, climate change, aging infrastructure, and the need for enhanced water and energy efficiency.

Kazakhstan is represented in the project by three organizations, including Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University. Indira Aimbetova, Associate Professor at the Department of Biology (Faculty of Natural Sciences), represented the university at the seminar, actively contributing to the strategic group responsible for designing the content, expected learning outcomes, and assessment criteria for the new GreenCA modules.

Three New Educational Modules Developed:
"Digital Tools for Water Resources Management"

"Energy Consumption Optimization and GHG Emissions Reduction"

"Resource Recovery and Reuse"

The developed modules place a strong emphasis on practical skills and meeting current industry standards. To ensure international quality compliance, the modules will undergo accreditation by a non-profit association and ASIIN, a globally recognized leader in educational quality assurance listed in key European and international registries.

This scientific seminar marks an important milestone in the GreenCA project, bringing together experts and educators to train a new generation of specialists capable of implementing digital solutions, reducing resource intensity, and advancing circular economy practices across Central Asia.
