Our History

History of the faculty

Our educational institution was opened by the decree of the president of the Republic of Kazakhstan on June 6, 1991 as "Turkestan State University" in the city of Turkestan. On October 31, 1992, on the basis of a bilateral agreement between the governments of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Turkey, our university was reorganized into the "International Kazakh-Turkish university named after Khoja Ahmed Yasawi", named after the leader of the Turkic people, teacher, scientist Khoja Ahmed Yasawi. The university is the first international higher educational institution in the Kazakh state, as well as the only educational institution among the Turkic-speaking states that has an international status-the center of Education.

The first in Kazakhstan to train specialists in the field of religion has been the International Kazakh-Turkish university named after Khoja Ahmed Yasawi since 1991. To date, specialists in educational programs of Religious Studies and theology are trained by qualified Kazakh and Turkish professors within the Departments of Religious Studies and theology. Since September 01, 2021, thanks to the support of the rector of our university Zhanar Amangeldikyzy Temirbekova, the Department of "Religious Studies and theology" has been expanded and created the Faculty of Theology.
