Our History

In 1996, with the decree of the president of the International Kazakh-Turkish University, Academician M. Zhurinov, the Research Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology was established at the International Kazakh-Turkish University named after Khoja Akhmet Yassawi, with the aim of developing the scientific research services. In 1998, it became a scientific research center, and in 1999, it became a department within the Institute of Turkology. It was reopened as an independent scientific research center by the order of the university president O. Sabden (No. 1/477 dated September 1, 2001), in accordance with the "Concept of Scientific and Scientific-Technical Policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan" approved by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on July 12, 2001 (under No. 1059), and the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Science" dated July 9, 2001.

The Institute of Archaeology is carrying out scientific research under the long-term program "Continuity of Ancient and Medieval Turkic Civilization (based on archaeological monuments of Southern Kazakhstan)." Currently, the institute is conducting research on the theme of "Continuity of Turkic Culture: Worldview and History of Turkic Peoples, Language and Literature, Stages of Turkology Science Development, Continuity of Archaeological Cultures, Theoretical and Methodological Aspects of Research on Linguistic Connections."
