One of the main goals set for the institute is the introduction of "green eco–technologies" into production with the production of environmentally friendly natural agricultural products. Large-scale reconstruction and research of insoluble salt deposits in some parts of the mausoleum on the surface layers of building material, formed under the influence of natural and climatic factors, are being carried out in order to turn the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi into a tourist center. To eliminate these salt deposits and contain the ways of their formation, the staff of the Research Institute "Ecology" conducts comprehensive research, namely, the mechanisms of salt formation in the interior of the mausoleum and on the surface of the exterior walls and foundation of the monument, their compositions, and the conditions leading to the formation of deposits are investigated.

Based on these results, new salt purification methods based on adsorption ion exchange and electrochemical processes are being developed, which make it possible to get rid of salt deposits and avoid conditions leading to their formation.

The Institute implements projects of scientific works and environmental standards related to various industries on a contractual basis. Namely:

a) assessment of the environmental impact of production facilities in various regions of Kazakhstan, including Sauran, Otyrar districts;

b) development of draft regulatory documents of the State Enterprise "Turkestan-zhylu", landfills (solid waste storage sites) in the city of Turkestan, Otyrar district;

c) disposal of solid waste from the establishment of SKZ-U LLP with the receipt of building materials;

d) preparation of environmental regulations for newly constructed buildings and sources of pollution of the university;

e) data on the preparation of environmental passports for the cities of Turkestan, Kentau and other districts of the Sauran and Turkestan regions are summarized;  

f) work is being carried out on the draft environmental maps of Shymkent, Turkestan;

g) environmental facilities (wastewater, soil, air) and industrial emissions are monitored.

Students and undergraduates studying at the International Kazakh-Turkish University named after Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, at the Scientific Research Institute "Ecology", majoring in Chemistry and Ecology of our university, create scientific projects and master's theses on their interests. PhD and postdoctoral students are also engaged in science in scientific fields. The main scientific directions of the Institute are the production of environmentally friendly products in agriculture (vermicroproducts, insecticidal preparations, fertilizers, ameliorants, feed additives, etc.). Work in an accredited laboratory "environmental control and chemical analysis": soil, water, air and microbiological analyses. In these areas, students perform scientific work.
