In accordance with the university order No. 1/400 dated March 28, 2024, “On the Merger of Departments, Renaming of Departments, and Transfer of Specialties to Departments,” issued to implement decisions 15.1, 15.2, and 15.3 of the 76th meeting of the Board of Trustees of Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University dated February 24, 2024, the departments of “Human Pathology” and “Laboratory Disciplines” of the Faculty of Dentistry were merged and approved under the name “Department of Fundamental Medical Sciences” starting from the 2024–2025 academic year.
The Department of Fundamental Medical Sciences provides theoretical training in essential fundamental and clinical disciplines for future dentists. Students enrolled in the educational programs 6B10189-Dentistry and 6B10156-Dentistry receive instruction in specially equipped classrooms and clinical bases in the following disciplines: Module–Fundamentals of Life-1, Module–Fundamentals of Life-2, Module–Morphology and Physiology-1, Module–Morphology and Physiology-2, Module–Introduction to Clinical Practice and Communication Skills, Module–Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Introduction to Scientific Research, Microbiology, Biological Chemistry, General Pathology, Pharmacology, General Surgery, Fundamentals of Otorhinolaryngology, Research Methods and Presentation, Fundamentals of Emergency Medical Care, Fundamentals of Internal Diseases, Forensic Medicine and Medical Law, Neurology, Psychiatry, and Infectology.
In the 2025–2026 academic year, the total teaching workload for the department’s disciplines amounted to 10,297.6 hours. A total of 24 faculty members worked within 17.75 staff positions, including 3 Doctors of Science, 9 Candidates of Science, 1 PhD, 2 Senior Lecturers, 5 Master’s degree lecturers, and 4 practitioner lecturers.
The academic degree qualification rate of the department is 54.1%.
