A TRAINING SESSION ON “TIME AND PRIORITY MANAGEMENT: SKILLS OF AN EFFECTIVE MANAGER” WAS HELD
At our university, as part of the traditional Tuesday training sessions, a workshop on “Time and Priority Management: Skills of an Effective Manager” was conducted. The session was led by the Vice-Rector for Socio-Cultural Development, Yedil Tolegenov.
Opening the session, Edil Tolegenov emphasized:
"Time is an irreversible and limited resource. How we use it determines our success, happiness, and quality of life. Each person is given 86,400 seconds every day, yet many spend this time aimlessly, dedicating too little to truly important matters."
The speaker discussed the historical development of time management and introduced a practical tool for effective time use — the Eisenhower Matrix.
Participants engaged in practical exercises applying the Eisenhower Matrix. The session also covered the principles of delegation and five key rules for time management: setting goals, determining priorities, allocating time blocks, automating tasks, and ensuring rest and recovery.
Common mistakes were highlighted, such as working without a plan, taking on all tasks, and agreeing to everything indiscriminately, along with strategies to avoid them.
Yedil Tolegenov introduced participants to Elon Musk’s eight principles of effective time management and provided tailored recommendations for faculty deans.
At the end of the training, participants were assigned the task of planning their workday, including strategies for handling unforeseen situations and adjusting plans as necessary. This exercise helped strengthen their skills in efficient time management.
In conclusion, participants recognized that proper time planning is a crucial tool for success not only in professional life but also personally. They gained a comprehensive understanding of the benefits of prioritizing tasks, organizing work efficiently, and consciously managing their time.
