“PARTICIPATION OF UNIVERSITY RECTORS IN THE INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS FORUM”

The Rector of our University, Zhanar Temirbekova, took part in the opening ceremony of the international forum titled “Protection of Human Rights and Effective Justice: A Balance between National Traditions and International Standards,” held in the city of Astana.

The forum was organized within the framework of the Turkic Judicial Training Network to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Judicial Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The international event is being jointly hosted by our University, the Supreme Judicial Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Academy of Justice, the Turkic Judicial Training Network, and the OSCE Programme Office in Astana. Experts from Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Azerbaijan are participating in the forum.

Today, the opening ceremony of the international forum took place. During the event, Dmitry Malakhov, Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan Zhiyenbayev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as other leading legal experts, shared their views on current legal policy, the effectiveness of fair justice, and international standards.

During the forum, the Rector of our University, Zhanar Temirbekova, also delivered a speech, emphasizing that the forum serves as an important platform for deepening legal cooperation among countries of the Turkic world. She highlighted the growing importance of experience exchange, joint research, and coordination of legal reforms amid today’s global changes.

“As a partner of this forum, Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University considers the protection of human rights, academic support for legal reforms, and the development of international cooperation to be an integral part of its mission. Khoja Akhmet Yassawi, whose name our University proudly bears, was a great thinker who placed spiritual values, justice, and human dignity at the core of society. One of the fundamental principles in Yassawi’s wisdom is that ‘preserving human dignity is the foundation of the righteous path.’ This call resonates with the core principles of human rights in any era. The issues discussed at today’s forum represent a modern continuation of this spiritual heritage,” said the Rector.

In her address, Zhanar Temirbekova also referred to an initiative raised during the “Philosophy of the Great Steppe and Legal Culture” symposium held at our University last week with the support of the Constitutional Court and the Akimat of Turkestan Region. She emphasized the importance of conducting in-depth research into the legal heritage of nomadic civilization and integrating it into the national legal doctrine.

“Law is not merely a set of norms. Law is society’s moral responsibility toward human beings. Justice, in turn, is the highest ethical principle of the state,” the Rector concluded.
