“AN OFFICIAL MEETING WAS HELD ON THE TOPIC: ‘DEEPFAKES AND NEW THREATS’.”

Today, our university held an official meeting on the topic “Deepfakes and New Threats” with the participation of students from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Education and Humanities, and the Faculty of Law, together with representatives of the Department of Economic Investigation of the Turkistan Region.

The main purpose of the meeting was to enhance students’ legal literacy, prevent their involvement in dropper activities, and teach them to identify deepfake materials.

The event was attended by Yerbolat Balgabayev, Head of the Department of Economic Investigations for the Turkistan Region; Gulziya Karsybay, Senior Operative Officer of the 2nd Operational Division of the Department; Laura Nurbossynkyzy, an officer of the Department; as well as faculty members and students of our university.

The significance of the topic was explained by Senior Operative Officer Gulziya Karsybai. In her speech, she noted:

“In relation to droppers, penalties are becoming stricter today. In addition, personal data such as Face ID and fingerprint scanners on our phones are a primary target for fraudsters. When they call, they try to gain trust immediately. Therefore, caution is extremely important.”

The next speaker was Department Officer Laura Nurbosynkyzy:
“A deepfake is a form of deception created using artificial intelligence. Today, fraudsters use modern technologies and influence our emotional intelligence, acting quickly and convincingly. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully verify the authenticity of any information,” she warned.

During the meeting, the specialists conducted a quiz in a Q&A format among faculty and students, testing their ability to recognize fraud schemes.

The meeting was useful and informative for students. Given the rapid evolution of digital threats, participants once again recognized the need for heightened cyber security and careful attention to any suspicious information. The knowledge gained will undoubtedly help prevent fraud in the future.
