“THE NATIONAL ECO-HOUR TITLED ‘SAVE WATER – PRESERVE THE FUTURE’ HAS BEEN HELD.”
At our educational institution, a national eco-hour titled “Save Water – Preserve the Future” was held as part of a large-scale initiative by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan for university students across all regions of the country.
The event was organized at the initiative of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the Ministry of Education within the framework of the state educational program “Adal Azamat.”
The meeting was based on the strategic priorities for the rational use of water resources, in line with the instructions outlined by the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in his Address to the Nation dated September 8, 2025.
The main objective of the event was to foster a conscious and responsible attitude among students toward water resources, enhance their understanding of efficient water use, promote environmental awareness, and develop practical skills for sustainable water consumption in both daily life and future professional activities.
Students from regional universities and colleges participated in the event in both offline and online formats.
The moderator of the meeting was Vice-Rector for Social and Cultural Development, Yedil Tolegenov.
Opening the event, Rector Zhanar Temirbekova stated:
“Today we have gathered for an important reason. This eco-hour is being held simultaneously in higher education institutions across the country.
Water is the foundation of life. Without it, life cannot exist. A common misconception is that water resources are inexhaustible. However, over the past 50 years, scientists worldwide have warned that global water resources are steadily declining. Excessive consumption is increasingly leading to water scarcity.”
She also shared her views on water diplomacy and its importance in Central Asia.
Next, Deputy Head of the Republican State Enterprise “Kazakhstan Water Management,” Ibadulla Myrzayev, noted: “Water is not only an environmental issue but also a matter of national security and sustainable development. As emphasized by the Head of State, the efficient use of water resources is one of the key priorities for the country’s sustainable development. Kazakhstan is among the countries with limited water resources. Therefore, water conservation is a shared responsibility of the state, the economy, and every citizen.”
Director of the Botanical Garden Research Institute, Bekzat Myrzabekov, delivered a presentation on “Water Scarcity in Kazakhstan and Scientific Approaches to Its Solution.”
Director of the Research Institute for Sustainable Development, Tulkinjon Gaipov, provided insights into the scientific and practical aspects of water resource management within the framework of sustainable development goals.
In addition, third-year student Akbota Kuandyk presented an in-depth analysis of the importance of conserving and efficiently using water resources.
At the end of the eco-hour, faculty members and students who actively contributed to promoting environmental awareness and a culture of environmental protection were awarded letters of appreciation from the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The awards were presented by Rustam Kunanbayev, Deputy Director of the Tariff Policy Regulation Department.
