Today, at the Faculty of Philology of our university, a classroom named in honor of the renowned scholar Zhumabay Abil was officially opened. This noble initiative was organized within the framework of the international scientific and practical conference “Zhumabay Abil and the Directions of Literary Studies Development”, dedicated to the 70th  anniversary of the scholar.

The ceremonial ribbon of the new classroom, named after the respected educator, was cut by Rector Zhanar Temirbekova, the scholar’s wife Raushan Bekseitova, and the Head of the Center for Sustainable Social Development of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Nurgali Oraz.

Opening the event, Rector Zhanar Temirbekova said:
“Today is a special day for our university — we have opened a classroom named after our dear teacher, Zhumabay Agay. In the early years of independence, the opening of our university in Turkestan brought hope to many young people and members of the intelligentsia. This hope was answered by the best specialists from different regions. Thanks to this, today our university occupies a respected place and stands firmly on its feet. Our professors have passed invaluable knowledge to their students. In recent years, we have opened several classrooms and conference halls named after outstanding educators. Today’s classroom, the ninth in order, has been named after Zhumabay Abil. This is a noble tradition that goes back to the time of Khoja Akhmed Yassawi: the tradition of honoring teachers. We are a people who respect our mentors. Therefore, it is important to preserve this value.”

In turn, Vice-Rector for Social and Cultural Development Edil Tolegenov expressed confidence that this classroom would become a spiritual center, bringing together young students.

As part of the event, a presentation of Zhumabay Abil’s book “Genesis and Genre Foundations of Kazakh Comedy” was held. Additionally, the book “Wisdom Inherent in Talent”, dedicated to the scholar’s life and scientific heritage, was presented. The author, Zhabal Shoiynbet, shared memories of his close friend Zhumabay Agay.

At the conclusion of the event, friends, colleagues, students, and members of Zhumabay Abil’s family expressed their gratitude to the university staff for the warm reception and for opening the classroom in honor of the esteemed scholar.
