THE HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE KULTOBE STONE INSCRIPTION DISCOVERED BY A STUDENT WAS DISCUSSED AT THE FACULTY OF PHILOLOGY
A seminar-conference titled “The Kultobe Inscription: New Findings on the Use of Writing among the Early Oghuz” was held at the Faculty of Philology of our university.
The primary aim of the event was to thoroughly examine the scientific significance of the stone inscription discovered at the Kultobe settlement and to highlight its role in the development of written culture in early Oghuz society.
Notably, the historical artifact was first discovered and introduced into scholarly circulation by Alparslan Kavakly, a second-year Turkology student and Chair of the Turkology Student Club. The seminar provided an in-depth analysis of the historical, linguistic, and cultural aspects of the stone monument, based on the young researcher’s findings. Moreover, new scientific evidence illustrating the early Oghuz use of written traditions was presented to the academic community.
Participants closely examined the content and textual features of the ancient artifact, discussing the historical continuity of its symbols and their significance within Turkic civilization.
This scholarly gathering served not only as a step toward understanding the past but also as an important platform for revitalizing national historical consciousness. Research on the Kultobe inscription is expected to continue, further broadening the horizons of Turkology.
