Today, our University hosted a meeting with the People’s Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan and renowned theater and film actress, Meruert Utekeshova. The event was attended by faculty members, library staff, and students.

Prior to the meeting, guests were presented with a masterpiece of Kazakh cinema — the feature film Kyz Zhibek. Through her portrayal of the proud and strong-willed character Zhibek, the actress gained widespread recognition and left a lasting mark on national art.

The main purpose of the meeting was to introduce students to the life and creative journey of the stage master, who has devoted more than half a century to theatrical art, as well as to increase young people’s interest in national culture.

During the event, Rector Zhanar Temirbekova presented Meruert Utekeshova with the TURKSOY magazine, which features an extensive article by scholar Seit Kaskabasov on the epic poem Kyz Zhibek.

Addressing the youth, the actress noted:

“Library is a temple of knowledge, and theater is the hearth of culture. My wish to modern youth is to read books and attend the theater. To know our history and contribute to presenting our country to the world is the duty of each of us.”

During the meeting, faculty members and students asked questions about the filming process, challenging scenes, the actress’s creative impressions, and memorable moments. Students also discussed the artistic value of the character Zhibek and its connection to the actress’s contemporary creative image.

In addition, the honored guest became acquainted with the rich collection of the University library and especially emphasized the importance of the educational environment.

At the conclusion of the meaningful and engaging meeting, participants congratulated Meruert Utekeshova on her 75th anniversary and took commemorative photographs.
