UNIVERSITY STUDENTS BECAME WINNERS AT AN AI HACKATHON
Our students achieved outstanding success at the AI Hackathon held in the city of Turkistan as part of the interregional forum titled “Financial Security: Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence in the Modern Era.”
The event was supported by the Financial Monitoring Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Akimat of Turkistan Region and organized by our university in cooperation with the Economic Investigation Department of the Financial Monitoring Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Turkistan Region.
The hackathon was aimed at advancing Kazakhstan’s digital transformation agenda. Participants presented practical AI-driven solutions to pressing challenges in the field of financial security.
Over the course of two days, our students actively participated in the competition, confidently defended their projects, and earned places among the winners. In total, nearly 400 young participants from 114 teams — representing schools, colleges, and universities — competed across five categories.
In the AI Digital Trace category, our university’s team “Zerkalolomy,” residents of the Yassawi incubation program — Yerdaulat Toibekov, Ramazan Zhumakhan, and Nurym Myrzakhymet — delivered an exceptional performance, winning first place and receiving a prize of 1,000,000 tenge.
The AI Digital Trace track focused on developing an AI-powered solution to detect accounts involved in illegal online trade via messaging platforms. The system is designed to identify suspicious sellers by analyzing channels, messages, behavioral patterns, and digital connections, generating analytical data for further operational use.
In the Open AI Challenge category, second place was awarded to team “ECHO,” whose members — Islam Abdulahadov, Milaz Khinizov, Saltanat Ilyas, and Dulat Dinmukhamed — received a prize of 700,000 tenge.
Additionally, in the same category, members of our university’s “GreenFlag” team — Izzatilla Sapaev, Fakhriddin Saidakbaruly, and Dilmurat Ulugbekuly — were awarded an incentive prize of 200,000 tenge.
The Open AI Challenge offered a broad theme within financial security. Teams independently identified relevant issues within the scope of the Financial Monitoring Agency’s activities — including fraud, money laundering, shadow schemes, financial risks, and other threats — and proposed well-founded AI solutions with strong potential for practical implementation and scalability.
In the AI Against Ludomania category, team “Themis,” also residents of the Yassawi incubation program — Ayaulym Zholdaskyzy, Gulfairuz Saduakas, and Aigerim Serikzhankyzy — received a 200,000 tenge incentive award. This track focused on developing AI solutions to combat gambling addiction. Projects included behavioral data analysis, risk factor detection, preventive tools, educational mechanisms, and other technological approaches aimed at reducing the spread and social impact of ludomania.
Notably, all teams representing our university successfully passed the selection stage and advanced to the finals. Experts highly praised the innovative solutions presented by our students, emphasizing their relevance, practical value, and technological effectiveness.
The interregional AI Hackathon proved to be an impactful platform for fostering youth digital competencies, promoting the practical application of artificial intelligence technologies, and strengthening financial security initiatives.
