Today, our university held a forum on the topic “Steps to Safety and Care: Healthy University in Combating Drugs and Supporting Mental Health.” The event was organized as part of the “Healthy Universities” project.

The goal of the forum was to raise awareness about the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment in universities, as well as the need to combat drug use among students and support mental health.

The forum was attended by qualified specialists, including the Head of the Anti-Narcotics Department of the Turkistan Regional Police, Police Colonel Amangeldy Burkhanov, psychiatrist and narcologist of the Regional Mental Health Center Asem Smailova, and other experts.

Opening the forum, Rector Zhanar Temirbekova noted:

“The topic of today’s forum is a large-scale problem that is currently serious not only in our country but also worldwide. Despite many years of efforts by various states, the problem remains relevant. Overcoming it and understanding it comprehensively requires, first and foremost, student literacy. In this regard, I sincerely thank the staff and students of the Faculty of Medicine for organizing such an important forum, as well as for inviting institutions working on this issue in the region, bringing them together in one place.”

The rector also spoke in detail about the importance of combating drugs, emphasizing the threats they pose to society, including harm to human life and the destruction of families.

Rector’s representative Peyami Battal expressed gratitude to the forum organizers and urged students to avoid drugs and other harmful habits, as well as to cultivate a healthy environment.

Next, the Deputy Dean for Research at the Faculty of Medicine, Balnur Omarova, delivered a report on the topic “Salauatty Yassawi: Current Aspects of Harmful Habits.” During the event, other important issues were also discussed, including “Types of Drug Addiction: Causes, Consequences, Treatment,” “Assistance for Drug Addiction and Mental Health. Healthy Lifestyle,” and more.
