Professor Dr Faruk Bilir, President of the Personal Data Protection Authority of the Republic of Türkiye, visited our university. The distinguished guest was welcomed by Rector’s Representative Peyami Battal.

During the visit, Faruk Bilir first delivered a seminar entitled “Data Protection in the Digital World” at the Faculty of Law. Academic staff and students attended the seminar and discussed the protection of personal data in the digital environment, information security and privacy.

A memorandum of cooperation was subsequently signed between our university and the Personal Data Protection Authority of the Republic of Türkiye. The document was signed by Faruk Bilir, President of the Authority, and Peyami Battal, Rector’s Representative.

The memorandum aims to promote joint research on personal data protection and the safeguarding of data privacy and security, as well as to strengthen cooperation in education and the exchange of experience.

Under the memorandum, the parties intend to organise academic seminars, conferences and other events on personal data protection; jointly develop national and international projects; and prepare academic publications. They also plan to improve students’ knowledge in this field, introduce relevant courses into academic programmes, explore the possibility of establishing a joint research laboratory, and develop shared academic resources.

The cooperation will also prioritise the professional development of specialists, the exchange of experience in postgraduate education programmes, and joint research into current issues concerning personal data security.
