NEW OPPORTUNITIES IN EPILEPSY RESEARCH: INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CONCLUDES

The international scientific and practical conference “Key Aspects of Drug Resistance Mechanisms in the Pathogenesis of Epilepsy: The Role of Genetic Research” has concluded.

The event brought together representatives of the scientific and medical communities from Kazakhstan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom, India, and Pakistan, who spent two days exchanging knowledge and experience.

The conference covered current issues in neurology, epileptology, medical genetics, and molecular biology.

It should be noted that the event was organized as part of the scientific projects AP23489425, “Study of the Genetic Profile of Patients with Drug-Resistant Epilepsy in the Turkistan Region,” and BR24992814, “Development of Innovative Technologies and Creation of Modern Infrastructure for the Sustainable Development of the South Kazakhstan Region.”

On the first day of the conference, participants discussed current issues in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy. In particular, they explored the early detection of drug-resistant epilepsy, personalized treatment strategies, genetic diagnostics, pharmacogenomics, rare diseases, and the importance of molecular research in clinical practice.

In addition, participants shared the results of scientific studies focusing on clinical case analysis, neurorehabilitation, genetic factors, and the optimization of treatment approaches.

On the second day, the conference continued with practical sessions focused on clinical and laboratory work. The workshops were held at the Rehabilitation Department of our university’s Clinical and Diagnostic Center and at the Yassawi Center for Academic and Research Excellence.

During the clinical workshops, participants focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with epilepsy. They also discussed the clinical characteristics of drug-resistant epilepsy and important factors that must be considered when treating patients.

The laboratory and research workshops covered the main stages of molecular genetic research. First, participants were introduced to the laboratory’s research capabilities. They then explored methods for DNA extraction, concentration measurement, and the assessment of DNA quality and integrity, as well as the work of the microbiology laboratory and its diagnostic capabilities.

The two-day international scientific conference provided an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the clinical and genetic characteristics of drug-resistant epilepsy, discuss modern diagnostic and research methods, and strengthen the exchange of scientific knowledge and experience between domestic and international specialists.
