CLEAN KAZAKHSTAN: LARGE-SCALE ENVIRONMENTAL CAMPAIGN HELD AT OUR UNIVERSITY
A large-scale clean-up event entitled “Clean Kazakhstan – A Clean Environment, a Shared Responsibility” was held at the Botanical Garden of our educational institution as part of the nationwide environmental campaign “Clean Kazakhstan,” implemented at the initiative of the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The main objectives of the event were to clean the environment of litter, contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and foster environmental awareness and a culture of environmental responsibility among students.
The environmental campaign was attended by Yedil Tolegenov, Vice-Rector for Socio-Cultural Development; Ender Sayin, Acting Executive Secretary; staff members of the Botanical Garden Research Institute, the Department of Youth Affairs, and the Commercialization Office; Deputy Deans; active students; and volunteers.
During the event, Vice-Rector for Socio-Cultural Development Yedil Tolegenov first expressed his gratitude to the university community and active young people for their enthusiastic participation in the environmental campaign.
In his address, he noted:
“There are only a few botanical gardens in Kazakhstan, and one of them is located at our university. Today, we will join forces to clean the area surrounding this garden. Maintaining a clean environment is our civic duty. May a Clean Kazakhstan begin with the cleanliness of our hearts!”
He also highlighted the priorities outlined in the Head of State's new Address, published on 28 November, and called for joint efforts to foster a culture of environmental responsibility.
Following this, active students divided into groups and began cleaning the Botanical Garden grounds. They cleared ditches and irrigation channels of litter, collected waste in bags, and loaded it onto a tractor for removal.
After the environmental campaign, at the initiative of the students, the event continued with a sports and cultural programme. Students interested in sports played football on the sports field, while creatively minded young people sang songs and danced together.
Thus, a responsible attitude towards environmental cleanliness and joint efforts towards a common goal contributed to fostering environmental awareness among university students and further strengthening friendly relations among them.
