FACULTY MEMBERS OF YASSAWI UNIVERSITY CONDUCTED A SEMINAR IN UZBEKISTAN
According to the UN General Assembly’s decision, November 16 has been celebrated as the “International Day for Tolerance” since 1997. Since 2019, on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the country also observes this day, and this year the tradition continued within Tolerance Week under the theme “Religious Tolerance in the New Uzbekistan.”
As part of the week, an international scientific seminar “Interfaith Dialogue and Tolerance — the Basis of Social Stability” was organized at the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan. At this important meeting of religious figures, the Director of the Yasawitanu Research Institute, PhD Baurzhan Saifunov, conducted a seminar on “Using Yasawi Culture as Soft Power to Counter Religious Extremism,” while the Head of the Department of Religious Studies at the Faculty of Theology, PhD Faride Kamalova, presented a seminar titled “Scientific and Theoretical Foundations for Strengthening Religious Tolerance.”
The international seminar brought together scholars from Turkey, Malaysia, India, South Korea, Russia, Scotland, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, representatives of the Tashkent and Uzbekistan dioceses, the Russian Orthodox Church, the UNESCO Chair of Religious Studies and Comparative Study of World Religions, staff of the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan, faculty members, specialists, and students of the academy.
