A TRAINING SESSION TITLED “EACH OF US IS PART OF THE STRATEGY” WAS HELD
This training was organized as part of the ongoing series of professional development and team-building meetings for deans, department heads, directors of research institutes, deputy deans, and heads of departments, which take place every Tuesday in the format of a corporate breakfast. The speaker of the event was Ainash Oshibayeva, Vice-Rector for Science and Strategic Development.
The purpose of the training was to help every staff member recognize their personal contribution to the implementation of the university’s strategic goals.
Ainash Oshibayeva elaborated on the question “What is strategic thinking?” and presented four key elements of strategic thinking: systematic approach, foresight, prioritization, and flexibility. “A person who thinks strategically sees not only what is happening, but also why it is happening and what it will lead to,” she noted.
During the event, participants were divided into eight groups and took part in various interactive games. In the game “Strategy Puzzle,” teams represented different areas — education, science, international cooperation, digitalization, finance, and others. The participants discussed the following questions: “What is our area of responsibility within the strategy?”, “How does our department support others?”, “What do we do and how does it contribute to the university’s mission?”, and “Which of our achievements are directly related to the strategy?”
Next, in the “Reverse Brainstorming” activity, participants analyzed possible obstacles to strategy implementation and explored ways to overcome them.
At the end of the training, participants gained a clearer understanding of the role of their departments and learned new ways of effective collaboration. Team games and discussions increased employee engagement and motivation. Such meaningful and insightful trainings will continue to be held in the future.
