An international scientific and practical conference was held at our university, dedicated to the 145th anniversary of the birth of Gulsim Asfendiyarova — the first Kazakh woman doctor with a higher education degree.

Gulsim Asfendiyarova was a highly qualified specialist and medical educator who played an important role in organizing the healthcare system in the Turkistan region.

Opening the event, Rector Zhanar Temirbekova said:
"Dear conference participants, students, and esteemed guests! As you know, our university has three medical faculties. Therefore, we are always ready to support any events related to the healthcare field. Every year, our university hosts about 20 major international conferences, approximately half of which are closely related to medicine.

Today's event is dedicated to the 145th anniversary of Gülsim Asfendiyarova. Upon learning this news, we gladly prepared and made every effort to warmly welcome all our colleagues. The significance of this event is profound. By reviving the name of Gülsim Asfendiyarova, many scholars study the role of women doctors in society and the contribution of Kazakh women to the development of science. At this moment, I would like to express special gratitude to our researchers!"*

The conference also featured a video greeting from Marat Shoranov, Rector of the S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University. Other guests also wished the conference success.

During the conference, leading specialists and scholars presented reports on important topics, such as: “Achievements and Prospects for the Development of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Republic of Kazakhstan,” “The Role of Gulsim Asfendiyarova in the Development of Obstetrics in the Khivan Khanate in the Early 20th Century,” and “The First Kazakh Women Who Laid the Foundations of Obstetric and Gynecological Services,” among others.

Participants thoroughly discussed Gulsim Asfendiyarova’s contributions to the development of medical science, especially in obstetrics and gynecology, as well as her role in advancing medical education in the Turkistan region.
