An academic seminar was held at our university with the participation of the Dean of the Faculty of Sports of Trabzon University (Republic of Türkiye), Professor Fatih Bektas. During his visit, the professor met with the deans and vice deans of the faculties of our university.

Opening the event, Rector Zhanar Temirbekova noted:

“In recent years, our university has attracted significant interest from higher education institutions in the Black Sea region. Consequently, rectors and professors from these universities have been visiting us more frequently. We are always pleased to welcome interested colleagues to our university for the mutual exchange of knowledge and experience. Today, with this very aim, we are honored to host the distinguished Professor Fatih Bektas from Trabzon University.”

In his remarks, Professor Fatih Bektas emphasized:

“Our spiritual leader is Khoja Akhmed Yassawi. It is a great honor for me to visit the university that bears his name and to meet with you. Today, I have come not only to share my academic experience, but also to learn from yours. In addition, I would like to present in detail the activities of the center established at the Faculty of Sports of Trabzon University.”

The professor spoke about research conducted at Trabzon University on pressing issues in the field of sports. The studies identified approximately 100 key challenges, including insufficient financial support for sports, difficulties in identifying talented children, and a low level of public awareness of sports. He also presented new scientific approaches aimed at addressing these challenges.

Furthermore, Professor Bektas introduced the participants to the activities of the Applied Research Center for Sports Performance Assessment and Talent Identification at Trabzon University. The center focuses on the sports sector and is engaged in identifying and guiding talented individuals through the measurement, evaluation, and scientific analysis of athletes’ physical and psychological indicators.

The primary objective of the center is to develop and implement effective methods for assessing sports performance and identifying talent based on interdisciplinary scientific and technological research. The center conducts research projects, publishes scientific findings, and organizes training programs aimed at improving athletic performance, strengthening public health, and promoting sports participation, thereby contributing to the development of a healthy and successful lifestyle.

According to the professor, specialized tests are used at the center to measure athletes’ physical, technical, and functional indicators, with the results analyzed from a scientific perspective. In addition, work is carried out at the level of schools and sports clubs to identify talented children and guide them toward sports disciplines that best correspond to their abilities.

The center also conducts research aimed at improving talent identification methods and evaluating the effectiveness of assessment centers. Alongside this, consultations are provided for coaches and sports clubs, as well as training sessions and workshops on the correct interpretation and practical application of testing results.

Professor Bektas also spoke about the admission requirements for the Faculty of Sports at Trabzon University, the procedures for entrance examinations, and their specific features. He noted that, should there be interest, the new methods and mechanisms of student selection could be adapted and implemented within the educational system of our university.

At the conclusion of the seminar, the participants expressed their sincere gratitude to Professor Fatih Bektas for the valuable insights and advanced experience he shared.
