SCIENTIFIC SEMINAR HELD WITH LEADING SCHOLARS FROM HARVARD AND INDIANA UNIVERSITIES
A scientific seminar featuring leading scholars from Harvard and Indiana Universities was organized at our university.
The event was attended by Dr. Gulnara Eziz Yulghun, Director of the Uyghur/Chagatai Language Program at Harvard University, and Dr. Akram Habibulla, Librarian for Middle Eastern, Islamic, and Central Eurasian Studies at Indiana University.
The seminar was moderated by Khalil Çetin, Director of the Institute of Turkology Research.
Opening the event, Vice Rector for Finance and International Relations Mustafa Giritlioğlu addressed the audience, stating:
“Dear faculty members and students, today we are honored to host distinguished scholars among us. Both guests possess extensive expertise in the field of Turkology. Therefore, I believe this meeting will provide valuable insights for participants interested in Turkological studies. I am also confident that it will offer an excellent opportunity for scholars to exchange experiences and ideas.”
Following the opening remarks, Dr. Gulnara Eziz Yulghun, Director of the Uyghur/Chagatai Language Program at Harvard University, delivered a presentation entitled “Manuscript Studies and Digital Humanities: A Case Study of the Jarring Collection.” In her presentation, she introduced contemporary methods for the study of rare manuscripts.
Subsequently, Dr. Akram Habibulla, Librarian for Middle Eastern, Islamic, and Central Eurasian Studies at Indiana University, presented a lecture titled “From the History of Intellectual and Religious Life in Southern Kazakhstan.” He shared his scholarly perspectives on the region’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
During the seminar, participants discussed current issues related to manuscript studies, digital humanities, and the intellectual and religious history of Southern Kazakhstan.
At the end of the event, attendees exchanged views and had the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers from the speakers.
In addition, as part of the seminar program, the visiting scholars toured the university campus. They visited the Museum of the Cultural Center, the Library, and the Academic and Research Excellence Center. They also toured the laboratories of the Research Institute of Natural Sciences, Nanotechnology and New Materials and observed the activities of STEM Park.
