Today, our university hosted a panel discussion on the topic “Life Without Violence.”

The event was organized with the support of UN Women and the Central Asia Alliance for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence, as part of the UN global campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.”

Speakers included our university’s rector, Zhanar Temirbekova; Acting Head of the UN Women Office in Kazakhstan, Dina Amrisheva, PhD; TV host and associate professor Moldiyar Yergebekov; and film and theater actor Aziz Beyshenaliyev.

Additionally, the event was attended by Inara Namazbayeva, deputy of the Maslikhat of Turkestan Region; Natalia Kozhabekova, Human Rights Commissioner for Turkestan Region; representatives of the Department of Internal Policy; the regional organization “Zhastar Rukhy”; members of the intellectual community; faculty; and students.

During the panel discussion, participants addressed the harms of violence and its negative impact on families.

Rector Zhanar Temirbekova stated:
“Violence is not only a physical act; it is a deep wound to a person’s soul. The family should be a place where these wounds heal — the safest environment. Ensuring a violence-free home is our shared responsibility and goal.” She also emphasized the importance of care and support within the family, unconditional trust, and the educational role of parents.

Dina Amrisheva expressed gratitude to the university administration for organizing the important event and highlighted the significance of combating violence both in Kazakhstan and globally.

Actor Aziz Beyshenaliev shared his pleasure at visiting the spiritual capital of Turkic peoples — Turkestan — and spoke about the responsibility of men within the family.

Associate Professor Moldiyar Yergebekov discussed the value of family and creating a safe, violence-free environment, analyzing the social, cultural, and economic causes of violence, as well as ways to establish safety both at the individual and societal levels.

Gulsara Tokkulova, Chair of the Regional Council of Mothers, and Professor Shakir Ibraev shared personal experiences and offered guidance to the youth.

Professor Shakir Ibrayev emphasized:
“In a family, mutual understanding between women and men is essential. Above all — respect for one another. Everyone has responsibilities in society, and when we learn to fulfill them honestly, harmony emerges, and violence disappears.”

Gulsara Tokkulova added:

“Anger is the enemy, reason is the friend; therefore, it is important to control emotions. Valuable insights were shared today. Listen not only for yourselves, but also share them with those around you. True strength is expressed through upbringing and wisdom.”

Thus, the veteran educators discussed the roles of men and women in the family, the importance of consent and cooperation, and encouraged young people to avoid using power against the weak and to build happy families.

At the end of the discussion, participants received answers to their questions.
