A ROUNDTABLE TITLED “PHOTOGRAPHY AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: THE CONVERGENCE OF CREATIVITY AND TECHNOLOGY” WAS HELD.
Today, our university hosted a roundtable titled “Photography and Artificial Intelligence: The Convergence of Creativity and Technology.”
The event was organized in honor of the 60th birthday of our university’s photo chronicler and prominent member of the national “Fotooner” public association, Nakhyp Sheriuly Shintemirov.
The purpose of the roundtable was to analyze trends in the development of photography in the current digital era, discuss the transformation of photojournalism and visual communication, and scientifically examine the influence of artificial intelligence and modern technologies on creative processes.
The event brought together university leadership, members of the “Fotooner” public association, students from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after Temirbek Zhurgenov, as well as photography specialists, faculty, and students from the South Kazakhstan Pedagogical University named after Uzbekali Zhanibekov.
In addition, renowned photographers and journalists from Turkistan and Kyzylorda regions, as well as Almaty and Shymkent cities, attended the event.
The roundtable was moderated by Bekzhigit Serdali, a distinguished figure in Kazakhstan’s cultural sphere and a lecturer at the Department of Journalism.
During the event, photojournalist, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan, and President of the “Fotooner” public association, Asylkhan Abdirayimuly, presented a report on the history of photography and the activities of the association.
Nakhyp Sheriuly was also awarded the “Photooner Honoree” medal on behalf of the national “Fotooner” public association for his significant contribution to Kazakh photojournalism.
Next, PhD candidate Dauren Mukhamedzhanov participated online, highlighting the role of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in preserving architectural heritage.
Ongarbek Alkharov, head of the “Fotooner” public association in Almaty, lecturer at the Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after Temirbek Zhurgenov, art historian, and ethnophotographer, gave a presentation on “The Continuity Between Photography and Artificial Intelligence.”
Additionally, Zhenis Yskabay, a member of the “Fotooner” association, employee of the “Zhetisu” TV channel, head of the “Zhusan” creative center, and photographer, spoke about the influence of artificial intelligence on the creative thinking, perspectives, and development of today’s youth.
During the roundtable, speakers shared insights on the interaction between photography and artificial intelligence, as well as the impact of modern technologies on creative processes.
Following the discussion, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Elmira Idrisova addressed the audience on behalf of the university leadership, conveying best wishes to Nakhyp Sheriuly. The university also honored the anniversary celebrant with a traditional ceremonial robe and other tokens of respect.
The event concluded with the awarding of winners from the student photography competition “Successful Portrait.” Dilnur Sultankbek received the third-degree diploma, Ayaulim Ergalykzy was awarded the second-degree diploma, and Balnur Sharapbayeva received the first-degree diploma. The winners were also presented with special monetary prizes from the Yassawi Endowment Fund.
