Our university hosted a round-table discussion entitled “Scholar. Journalist. Educator” to mark the 75th birthday of Seidulla Sadykov, a renowned scholar, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor, recipient of the Qurmet Order and founder of the university’s Department of Journalism.

The primary objective of the meeting was to reflect on Seidulla Sadykov’s professional and creative career in Kazakhstan’s journalism, his academic research, his teaching activities in higher education and his significant contribution to training qualified specialists, as well as to introduce the younger generation to his academic and pedagogical school.

The event brought together representatives of the intelligentsia, regional veterans, the honoree’s colleagues, members of the university community and his former students.

The round table was organized by the Faculty of Arts, Media and Design. Moldiyar Yergebekov, a media expert and former student of Seidulla Sadykov, moderated the meeting.

Yertai Altayev, Deputy Akim of the Turkistan Region, was the first to address the gathering and read a congratulatory message from Regional Akim Nuralkhan Kosherov. He also presented the honouree with the Qurmet Order, awarded by decree of the Head of State, and, in accordance with Kazakh tradition, placed a ceremonial shapan over his shoulders.

Malik Zhumagaliuly, Chair of the Turkistan Regional Branch of the Union of Journalists of the Republic of Kazakhstan, also formally presented Seidulla Sadykov with the “Honoured Journalist of Kazakhstan” badge.

University Rector Zhanar Temirbekova congratulated the honouree and highlighted his contribution to the establishment and development of journalism at the university.

“Dear Seidulla aga! Today, we have gathered for a round-table discussion dedicated to your anniversary. You are especially loved by your students because you are devoted to your people and have instilled in them the guiding principle, ‘Be a worthy person.’ You have dedicated your knowledge and energy to educating qualified professionals. In 1994, despite receiving invitations from other universities, you chose our university and founded its journalism programme. Through your substantial contribution to journalism, you became a leading figure in the region’s journalistic community. Our gratitude to you is immeasurable. Congratulations on your 75th birthday!” Zhanar Temirbekova said.

Rector’s Representative Peyami Battal noted:

“Today, we are speaking about the remarkable life and work of a person who has become a guiding figure in Kazakhstan’s journalism. You are a scholar who has conducted in-depth research into pressing issues concerning the Turkic world and revealed the strategic importance of Akhmet Yassawi University. Your more than 120 academic works, imbued with the ideals of national patriotism, form part of our society’s spiritual heritage. The thousands of students you have educated are the fruit of your teaching. We wish you good health. May your work for the benefit of the country and the unity of the Turkic world continue to be fruitful!”

During the meeting, a video entitled “A Life of Dignity. An Enduring Legacy” was screened. It explored Seidulla Sadykov’s life, his journalistic, academic and teaching activities, and the recollections of his former students.

Guests at the round table shared their memories of the distinguished journalist’s civic principles, professional career and qualities as an educator.

The speakers included Seidulla Sadykov’s former classmate, writer Kuandyk Tumenbay; Galymzhan Yelshibay, Chair of the Mediacracy Public Association and a former student of the scholar; and Bekzhigit Serdali, an Honoured Journalist of Kazakhstan and university lecturer.
