A SPECIAL STATUS WILL BE GRANTED TO TURKESTAN, THE SPIRITUAL CAPITAL OF THE TURKIC PEOPLES

At the session, attended by the Speaker of the Mazhilis Erlan Koshanov, the draft law—developed in accordance with the President’s directive to grant the city a special status as a spiritual and historical center—was unanimously supported.
It should be noted that the basis for developing this important law was the recognition of Turkestan as the spiritual capital of the Turkic world by the Organization of Turkic States, as well as the need to preserve the city’s historical appearance and its historical and cultural heritage sites.
The discussion of the draft law lasted one and a half hours, during which deputies expressed various opinions and asked questions. In preparing the draft, experiences in preserving historical monuments in the United Kingdom, Italy, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and other countries were studied. The new law, consisting of four sections and fifteen articles, establishes the legal foundations for the special status of Turkestan as a spiritual, cultural, and historical center of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Each article and provision underwent active discussion in parliament and was adopted in the first reading.
The special status will provide an impetus not only to the city but also to the development of our university. The growth and prosperity of Turkestan create new opportunities and modern conditions for students. Let us grow together and move toward a bright future!
