Biography
Sevgi Gezici, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Medical Biology and Genetics, Faculty of Medicine, at Gaziantep University, Türkiye. She also serves as the Head of the Molecular and Biological Activities of Natural Products Research Group at the Advanced Technology Application and Research Center of the same university. She received her B.Sc. degree in Biology from Gaziantep University (2005–2009) and completed her M.Sc. (2011) and Ph.D. (2017) degrees in Molecular Biology and Genetics at Gaziantep University. During her doctoral studies, she was accepted as a visiting researcher at Texas A&M University, Faculty of Life Sciences, where she conducted part of her Ph.D. research in 2014. She later pursued postdoctoral research at Kumamoto University, Department of Life Sciences, Japan. She was awarded competitive TÜBİTAK fellowships during both her M.Sc. and Ph.D. studies.Prof. Dr. Gezici has authored and co-authored over 200 scientific contributions presented in peer-reviewed journals and national/international scientific meetings. Her research integrates molecular cancer biology with artificial intelligence-driven bioinformatics approaches, focusing on cancer genetics, apoptosis, signaling pathways, clinical proteomics, and translational oncology. In recent years, she has been actively involved in the development of AI-based diagnostic models, machine learning and transformer-based systems for early cancer detection, biomarker discovery through high-throughput omics data analysis, and computational network pharmacology approaches. Her interdisciplinary research also encompasses medicinal and aromatic plants, secondary metabolites, nutraceuticals, anticancer and neuroprotective activities, and pharmaceutical sciences, combining experimental molecular techniques with computational biology and artificial intelligence-supported data analytics. Prof. Dr. Gezici serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of several international journals in Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Pharmacognosy. She is Co-Editor of Current Perspectives on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CUPMAP), Assistant Editor of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Research (JPR) and Current Research in Pharmaceutical Sciences (CRPS). She is the Scientific Secretary of the International Mediterranean Symposium on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MESMAP) and Chair of the International Symposium on Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences (ISPBS). She also serves as General Secretary of the Global Federation of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (GOFMAP) and is a member of the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR), the Association of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of the Mediterranean (AMAPMED), the Molecular Biology Association of Turkey, and an Honorary Faculty Member of the Novel Global Community Educational Foundation (NGCEF).
