The university launched a round table discussion on “Media and Journalism in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”

The event was organized on the initiative of Kydyraly Darkhan Kuandikovich, a member of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in conjunction with our educational institution, the Council of Aksakals-Muslims, and the International Center for Interfaith and Interreligious Dialogue.

The main goal was to discuss the relationship between media, ethics, and artificial intelligence from the perspective of peaceful journalism, and to identify ways to strengthen responsibility and moral values in the information space.

The round table was moderated by media expert, associate professor, and scientist Moldiyar Yergebekov.

Senator of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of the Board of Trustees Darkhan Kydyrali read a congratulatory letter from the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev.

"First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to the administration of the Turkestan region and the leadership and staff of Khoja Akhmed Yassawi University for their hospitality. This is the first higher education institution to bring together young people from the Turkic world, and a university that has trained so many journalists. We thank the Council of Muslim Elders, which initiated and supported the initiative. In addition, I accept our invitation and thank the guests who have come especially for this event. I think that at the round table we will hear reports and enthusiastic reviews from media experts and journalists.

This event is held under the auspices of the Senate of Parliament. We launched the first event in Turkestan. After all, the language and religion of goodness – the language of Yassawi, the language of peace and harmony – originated in Turkestan. We would like to express our gratitude to the university administration for accepting our proposal!

Our event is also part of the UN Decade to End Violence. As you know, this event has also begun in our country. In general, peaceful journalism is not just war journalism. It is a call for goodness through peaceful means, starting with social problems in society and ending with domestic violence and any conflict situations in society.

The reason we called it the “era of artificial intelligence” is that even experts in the world today cannot understand which channel people turn to for news using artificial intelligence. We must be careful with aggression and emotions, unrealistic accusations, and information. This will be one of the tasks of peaceful journalism. Therefore, I wish you good luck at today's meeting. I think that our initiative will continue in Almaty and Astana," said Darkhan Kydyraly.

Deputy Akim of the Turkestan Region Yertai Altayev noted: "Currently, the flow of information is changing faster than ever and is becoming the main tool for shaping public opinion. In this trend, the influence of artificial intelligence is growing every day, radically changing the structure and format of the media.

Akhmed Yassavi University, a fundamental educational institution in the region, plays an important role in scientific and technological progress and the training of high-tech specialists in the region through the development of artificial intelligence.  The Department of Journalism at the University, along with training professionals, systematically carries out scientific research, methodological, and educational work aimed at improving the quality of the information space," he said.

Rector Zhanar Temirbekova: "Today we are meeting at our university for an important reason. Some time ago, Darhan Kuandykovich, a full member of our university's council, told us about this event. This is because today's topic covers the work of four faculties at our educational institution. The Faculty of Artificial Intelligence Engineering does a lot of important work. There is a Department of Media Journalism. When people talk about the world, they remember our grandmother Yassawi. And as Yassawi University, holding this event is also a great joy for us! Therefore, we express our special gratitude to the deputy of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Darkhan Kydyraly, who came up with this initiative!" he said.

Next, the Representative of the Rector, Naci Genc, said: "We are delighted that such an important event is taking place at our university. In the era of artificial intelligence, the topic of peaceful journalism and the media is becoming particularly important.

At the end of the meeting, Abdunayim Seidmuhammed, head of the Office of the Council of Muslim Elders of Central Asia, also analyzed and expressed his cordiality and the thematic essence of the meeting.

The opening ceremony of the round table continued with a session meeting. Participants will share their views on the topics “The Peace Mission of the Media in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Responsibility and Ethics” and “The Language of Peace in Public Relations.”
